Turf Industry Seeing Growth
TYCROP Manufacturing Ltd. sells golf and turf assets to Toro

CHILLIWACK, British Columbia (October 14, 2009) - You might recognize the name from mudflaps on heavy-duty trailers that cruise up and down the highways of Western Canada but TYCROP Manufacturing is also known worldwide as a leading brand of golf and sports field maintenance equipment.  TYCROP’s position in the professional turfgrass industry has resulted in The Toro Company’s acquisition of TYCROP’s line of turf topdressers and material handlers.

“Golf courses and sports fields rely on these machines to achieve improved agronomic conditions and to create healthy, consistent playing surfaces” said Michael Happe, vice president of Toro’s commercial business. “TYCROP’s solid reputation in this important category complements our existing line of application and cultivation equipment.”

TYCROP Senior-Vice President Scott Mason has personal ties to the brand - he launched the Golf and Turf Division at TYCROP nearly 20 years ago, moved topdressing into the mainstream and inspired the creation of the industry’s first material handling technology.  “Whether we introduced completely new equipment or patented significant advancements in technology - we built our brand into the industry leader by focusing our energy on lasting relationships and walking in our customer’s shoes. We are proud that our years of hard work are recognized and the torch we carried is now being passed onto the Toro Company, a most respected leader in the industry”.

Mason is quick to point out that this sale isn’t a sign of a bad economy, “We have had a downturn, like anyone else, but have continued to dominate and grow in the marketplace. This sale to Toro is a reflection of where the industry is going, not where it is at.” Mason says the days of the small manufacturer are dwindling as firms like Toro streamline distribution and operations.  “The larger companies are seeing products like ours as strong, reliable sources of revenue – and rather than design and build their own line they approached us so they could jump into the market immediately. It gives Toro a head start and provides TYCROP with capital to explore and grow in our other brand markets.”

Based in Rosedale, British Columbia, TYCROP has built a solid reputation as a specialty engineering and manufacturing company for over 30 years. “We build mobility,” says company founder and President Gary Teichrob. “We have a reputation for keeping our customers moving efficiently and productively. We believe that the intellectual property, including a number of valuable patents, was a significant consideration for Toro. This sale is a great example of how our customer-oriented approach to product innovation translates into success.”

The company’s other businesses, which include TYCROP Specialty Trailers (mining, forestry and heavy-haul), Propell  (high horsepower stimulation equipment and rig support equipment for the oil and gas industry), and TrailerCraft (structural trailer repairs) were not associated with this acquisition and will continue normal operation.
